No One To Blame But (Y)ourselves

I bet you read that headline while thinking of someone else.

In fact, it's more than likely that you read that and thought of "the other party."

Unfortunately, that type of binary thinking won't get us to the heart of the matter, and it most certainly won't help us to stave off disaster like what happened the other night in Washington DC which is threatening to become more and more real moving forward.

I know that those of you on the right want me to demonize the left for interfering with the rally (I sympathize, I do), and I know that anyone reading this on the left wants me to demonize those who refuse to accept a Joe Biden Presidency, but here's the thing, I'm not going to do either. I don't have the time to write that article, and it's obvious from my readership statistics that no one will read anything that long anyway.

Instead, I'm going to cut through all of this tangled mess and strike out at the very heart of the issue, that is, the blackened heart pumping the corrupted and tainted blood of government control. That heart? An ever increasing Federal Control of our lives and our two party's systemic attempt to control it.

No one wants to kill the Leviathan anymore, they just want to control it.

Here's the thing, it shouldn't matter who won the election. Their control over our lives should be so minimal that it largely doesn't even register as a speed bump in our day. Yet the fact that we've holding rallies and fighting in the street over the election should show us the precariousness of our position. The Leviathan is killing us, and simply getting it to choke the other guy for the next four years isn't going to cut it.

There is a REASON why our Constitution leaves almost all of the issues to the states. It's a good reason, too. Our founders saw EXACTLY what we're seeing today as an inevitability of a top down governmental structure, and, as usual, they were right.

We're not Britain, France, Germany, or Russia. We don't have an overall hegemony of culture, a singular national identity, or even a melting pot. What we have is a balkanized conglomeration of peoples so disparate that there is no realistic way that they can all agree on anything, let alone a complete national moral code and structure.

That is WHY, and specifically why, our founders delineated power for almost all things to the states. Their vision was that a free people should be able to freely move about the states, and find a place within them with which they can agree. Want legalized drugs and abortion? Move to California. Don't? Move to Texas or Idaho. We were NEVER intended to be here forcing and imposing our will on others, yet here we are.

And that brings us to today, with riots, protests, counter-protests, and all kinds of other violences being done in our streets all in the name of forcing others to comply with (Y)OUR vision and morality. NO, STOP IT, stop looking to the other guy, look in the mirror. YOU are part of a party and system that wants to force their collective will on the other side. Don't believe me? Then why won't YOUR party (whichever on it is) kill the Leviathan and return the power to the states? Why won't they even say that this is what we need to do ONCE THEY'RE IN POWER?

Oh, they'll say it, but only when it's convenient for them and they aren't the ones in charge.

I hate to break it to you, but as long as we keep fighting for control of a system with which we can impose our world view on others, these violences are only going to increase in both frequency and intensity.

Once again, Ronald Reagan has been vindicated as right, "Government is not the solution to the problem, Government IS the problem." Not who controls it, but the fact that there is something that powerful to control to begin with, is the problem.

So what is the solution?

Well, unfortunately the solution is the one thing I think that we are least likely to see. That is, we need to stand together, liberal and conservative, Democrat and Republican, Trump supporter AND Biden supporter and tell the government that we are not interested in having them impose our views on others, but rather that they return the power over moral and lifestyle issues to the states. Oh yeah, and the funding for it too, but that's another article entirely.

Until we are done perpetrating our world view upon others at gunpoint, there will be no peace, there will be no rest, and there will be nothing but bitterness and fighting.

The Leviathan must die, or we will. It's as simple as that.
